- I work in the nexus of politics and policy implementation and I help clients to map a strategic path toward more sustainable urban development patterns.
I advise them as they recast their comprehensive plans, zoning codes and other regulatory instruments.
- I manage the technical assistance outreach program of the Smart Growth Leadership Institute.
My tasks include community education, advocacy, political analysis, strategic assessment, basic market analysis and technical audits of existing or proposed regulatory frameworks (policies, codes, zoning).
I also designed and developed the Institute's website.
- I led the development and deployment of smart growth implementation tools and managed technical assistance consultant teams to select communities under a 4-year, $700K US-EPA funded project.
I produced the national Smart Growth Implementation ToolKit. Included in the kit are Policy and Code Audit Tools, a Strategy Builder, a Project Scorecard and an Incentives Matrix.
Working with LeftBrain, I designed and developed the website using joomla.
I introduced the tools and discussed the lessons learned from the technical assistance program through a Knowledgplex Experts Chat and also discussed the tools with Smart City radio (hosted by Carol Colleta).
- My client communities vary in size and geography from Camden County in North Carolina, to Rancho Cordova in California to Grand Traverse County and Traverse City in Michigan.
- I've given lectures and also designed and facilitated workshops discussing the lessons learned (about smart growth implementation) from the technical assistance.
I've spoken at national events such as the annual New Partners for Smart Growth Conference and before various local and national organizations such as the National Association of Counties (NACo).
